Getting an interview call with less than 24 hours notice happens more than you'd think. This guide gives you a prioritized, time-blocked game plan to walk into any interview feeling prepared, confident, and ready.
Hour 1–2: Company Research That Actually Impresses Interviewers
Most candidates research companies superficially — they skim the About page and call it done. Interviewers can tell immediately. Here's the research that actually makes an impression.
What to Find in 60 Minutes
The company's recent news: Search "[Company Name] news 2026" and read the last 3–5 articles. Know any major product launches, funding rounds, acquisitions, or challenges they've faced publicly.
Their product or service in detail: Use their product if possible. Read their blog, watch their demo videos, understand their value proposition. Be able to answer "what do you think of our product?" with something specific.
The interviewer on LinkedIn: Look up the person interviewing you. Know their background, how long they've been at the company, and any content they've posted.
The company's challenges: Look at Glassdoor reviews (filter for the past 12 months), industry news, and the job description itself — roles are often created to solve specific problems.
Competitors: Know 2–3 competitors and how the company differentiates. If you're asked "why us?" you should have a real answer.
Hour 2–4: Preparing Your STAR Answers
The majority of interview questions are behavioral: "Tell me about a time when..." These are answered with the STAR framework.
S — Situation: Set the scene briefly.
T — Task: What was your specific role or challenge?
A — Action: What specific actions did YOU take?
R — Result: What was the measurable outcome?
The 7 Stories You Need for Any Interview
1. Leadership / Initiative: A time you took charge without being asked.
2. Conflict Resolution: A time you disagreed with a colleague or manager and how you resolved it professionally.
3. Failure / Mistake: A time something went wrong and what you learned. (They always ask this.)
4. Achievement Under Pressure: A time you delivered results under a tight deadline or with limited resources.
5. Collaboration: A time you worked effectively as part of a team on a challenging project.
6. Problem Solving: A specific technical or strategic problem you solved.
7. Adaptation / Change: A time a plan changed or failed and you had to adapt quickly.
Write these out in full STAR format before the interview. Saying them out loud is even better — it removes the hesitation that makes you sound unsure.
Hour 4–5: Preparing Your Questions
"Do you have any questions for us?" is not a formality — it's one of the most important parts of the interview. Candidates who ask sharp, thoughtful questions are memorable.
Questions That Impress
About the role:
- "What does success look like in this role after 6 months?"
- "What's the biggest challenge someone stepping into this position would face?"
- "What does a typical week look like for this role?"
About the team:
- "How does the team typically collaborate on projects?"
- "What do you enjoy most about working here?"
About the company (use your research here):
- "I saw that you recently [news item] — how has that affected the team's priorities?"

Hour 5–5:30: Logistics
For In-Person Interviews
- Know exactly where you're going and how long it takes — plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early
